For those of you who are interested, here's a little bit about me:
I was born in McAllen, Texas, which is part of the Rio Grande Valley area and not too far from the border with Mexico. From there my family moved to Houston, and after two and a half years there we moved to Austin, where I have lived since 1980.
I have had a life-long interest in science. Eventually I decided that astronomy was the field that I would most like to go into although I still have a great interest in geology and paleontology. I also am a bit of a history buff, in particular Tudor History.
I graduated from Wm. B. Travis High School in 1990, and I received my Bachelor's Degree in Astronomy from the University of Texas in 1994. After that, I had planned to go to graduate school at the University of Florida, but a lack of money on my part and their part kept that from happening. So, for almost a year I worked part time for Dr. Fritz Benedict (continuing work I had done as an undergraduate) and full time at Hobby Lobby in the Fabrics and Needlework Dept. Boy was that an exhausting year!
In June 1995, I took a part-time position in the Astronomy Department's Educational Services Office, and continued my other work in astronomy until September 1995 when I took the position in the Ed. Office full time. And, here I am still. In late 2000, UT started offering a Staff Educational Benefit so I finally started taking a class each semester in Spring 2001. I've been bouncing around between science, history and linguistics courses... mainly just what strikes my fancy (and what still has seats open by the time I get to register!).
And if you are still awake , you can see some silly photos of me.
